I thought it would be interesting to record how marriages happened in my family within the South Indian Brahmin community, starting with my grandmother's generation to my grandchild's. I've had the privilege of getting details about her wedding from my grandmother who was born in 1890, and from my mother, and I also attended the wedding of my granddaughter who is the fifth generation in my family to marry. Wedding traditions may have changed over time but our basic human emotions and the idea of love and companionship is universal.

Whether it’s about our physical appearances or certain aspects of our character, whether it’s our academic progress or our talents and skills, the Demon of Insecurity has without fail, always found a way to haunt and torture us.
