Talking Cranes is very excited to partner with Stanford University's ICME's inaugural Women in Data Science (#WiDS) , a one-day technical conference highlighting the contributions of women to this growing and increasingly innovative scientific field.
According to Margot Gerritsen, Director of ICME, the goals of the conference were to " inspire and educate data scientists regardless of gender, and support women in the field, providing networking and ongoing dialogue opportunities."
I caught up with Maria Roe Roshni on a hot Thursday morning, bonding over the merciless Chennai heat and my desperate need for caffeine.
Roe is a music producer, music arranger and vocalist, whose team works regularly with leading music directors in India, including A.R.Rahman, Anirudh Ravichander, and other top musicians. With a degree from the Berklee School of Music (Boston, MA), Roe began her career in India by teaching at a local music school.
At 33, V.R. Ferose became one of the youngest and the first non-German Managing Director of German multinational’s SAP Labs, India. He is currently SVP and Head of Globalization Service for SAP based in the Bay Area. Ferose wrote ‘Gifted’ along with author Sudha Menon, to tell the stories of inspiring people he has met ‘so that many more people’s lives can be impacted for the better’. Proceeds go towards Enable India, an NGO that works for people with disabilities.
Back in the day when I didn’t need to make final decisions about my life, I could declare to the world “I want to be a doctor” and change that to “I want to be a dancer” the next year; I wanted to become many people - journalist, teacher, writer, designer, researcher, RJ… God knows how many more.
S. Mitra Kalita was just named managing editor of the Los Angeles Times. Before that Mitra was executive editor of Quartz which she joined in 2012 as its founding Ideas Editor. She has launched Mint, a business paper in New Delhi, and the Greater New York section of the Wall Street Journal, and reported for The Washington Post, Newsday and the Associated Press. Mitra has published two books with another on the way.
