I caught up with Maria Roe Roshni on a hot Thursday morning, bonding over the merciless Chennai heat and my desperate need for caffeine.
Roe is a music producer, music arranger and vocalist, whose team works regularly with leading music directors in India, including A.R.Rahman, Anirudh Ravichander, and other top musicians. With a degree from the Berklee School of Music (Boston, MA), Roe began her career in India by teaching at a local music school.
Nikita Veejay picked me up for our meeting, en-route to a coffee shop, where we got ourselves cold drinks to save us from the (still young, but blazing) Chennai summer.
Dressed in a printed cotton linen shirt and capris, sunglasses in place, Nikita, 26, Founder of ‘Urumi’ exemplified a ‘Chennai ponnu’ as she would call herself. We settled into the cafe as I fished out my pocket notebook from my bag, which she immediately caught as her competitor’s, and whipped out one of her own brand’s, showing it off to me as smaller but better, and more endearing.
Gayatri likes fiction, fantasy, and parasitic diseases...also berries, crime fiction movies set in the 1950s, Tamil movies from the 80s and music from everywhere. She thinks while she swims, showers or cleans..... and is working on practicing discipline.
